(Seattle, WA) The Alexis Hotel is classified as a “boutique hotel” and deservedly so. It is located in the downtown area of Seattle within close walking distance to the famed Pike’s Place Market. From the moment that you enter the front door there is a welcoming, warm ambiance. We had been on a long flight from the east coast and so it was very assuring to have been welcomed by the staff-from the doorman to the front reception staff. Having arrived well before the check-in time, we were told that they would make every effort to provide a room as soon as practicable. So our bags were securely stored for us and we were directed by the Concierge to local attractions while we waited for the room. Incidentally the concierge was always available to give a wealth of information whether it was attractions, restaurants, coupons, etc.

The Alexis Hotel entrance and lobby areas are well appointed with seating, as well as a small business area with a computer and daily newspapers provided. There also are refreshments each day including coffee and, in the afternoon, a beverage and fruit. We were also pleased to see that this hotel is pet-friendly in that it had a bowl of water and dog biscuits located at the entrance.

Many pieces of artwork are hung throughout the building that provides a sophisticated atmosphere. This atmosphere carries over to the earthy colors in each area of the hotel so that one really feels like they are in a very cozy, relaxed environment.

Our room at the Alexis Hotel was on the third floor facing the south side of the city with a view of an art deco building across the street. There was a high ceiling with colonial style crown molding adorning the entire circumference of the room as well as ceiling to floor length draw drapes that provided privacy from the city views surrounding the hotel. It seems as though every necessity including an umbrella (for the predictable rainy climate), bath robes, a safe, snacks and many bathing necessities were provided. The bathroom had a shower/tub combination along with bathing amenities. Our room also had a dedicated docking station which came in handy for charging our I-phones each day. Overall, we were impressed with the attention to detail and cleanliness of the room as well as all the areas of the hotel that we visited.

Adjacent to the Alexis Hotel lobby is The Bookstore bar where one could order a meal in addition to their favorite spirits. Incidentally the bar featured many varieties of single malt scotch from many areas of Scotland as well as providing an assortment of beer and wine. Because it is a small bar (approx. 20 tables) this added to the social atmosphere especially during the evening hours. At the other end of the lobby is The Library Bistro restaurant complete with a piano adjacent to the main dining area. The restaurant décor features book-filled mahogany shelves to highlight its name. There are also high-backed booths that are nestled along the walls that provide intimacy in addition to the usual dining tables-all with table clothes. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a relaxed atmosphere. A spa is also available.
