The Georgian Terrace-OUTSIDE 2(Atlanta, GA)

When the academy award winning film Gone with The Wind premiered in 1939, the reception party was set at The Georgian Terrace, in Atlanta, a city that burned over a century and a half ago during the American Civil War. Out of the ashes of the former city, came a new Atlanta, a city commonly known as the Jewel of the South.

Atlanta, with its rich past, was seminal during the civil rights era, home to Martin Luther King, the site of 1996 Olympics, and the current home of companies such as Coca Cola and Delta. Through all of it, stood The Georgian Terrace, as both a witness and willing participant in history.

Situated across the street from the famed FOX theater, which upon opening in 1929 was described as a “a picturesque and almost disturbing grandeur beyond imagination.” The Georgian Terrace holds perhaps an even richer backstory. The Georgian Terrace embodies a romantic notion of 20th Century America: a rich Gatsbyish destination for luminaries such as F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Valentino in the 1920’s. It was the site of fundraisers for the second world war effort in 1940’s and home to many notable Georgians in the mid-century.

The Georgian Terrace-ArtThe hotel, which stood during the revitalization of Atlanta in the 1970’s was added to the National Register of Historic Places later in 1986, and saw a restoration effort that incorporated a 20-story atrium tower into the hotel’s design in 1997. In the new century a further restoration campaign brought about the expanded atrium lobby, fine dining restaurants, and refurbished ballrooms.

The Georgian Terrace is more than a hotel, it’s an opulent landmark and embodies the spirit of the best the south has to offer with its hospitality, charm, beauty, and sophistication. The elegant Georgian Terrace is the fulfilled wish of lofty American expectations. It is simply gorgeous.

Originally designed with the Beaux Arts style, the hotel was a symbol of the city’s resurrection and enduring spirit, but now all these years later, the venue is obviously current. Though The Georgian Terrace is steeped in a rich history, it is more than a novelty, with it’s spotless grounds, urbane rooms, and air of elegance and modernity, The Georgian Terrace is something to see, and experience. There is a sense of calm and wonder upon entering the lobby. The Georgian Terrace offers itself as a balm to the restless visitor. I can’t imagine a better stay in Atlanta.

The Georgian Terrace-Pool 1My visit to The Georgian Terrace was more than lovely, the rooms were pristine and sleek, and conversations with hotel staff were warm and gracious. The hotel offerings include an enviable gym, rooftop swimming pool, and art from local students displayed in the lobby. Meanwhile dinner at the Livingston, one of the hotel’s spots for fine dining, gives a contemporary twist on southern comfort food, with taste as rich as the grounds on which it is served.

The Georgian Terrace-RestaurantThe Georgian Terrace dazzles all the senses and I enjoyed my stay thoroughly. Upon leaving Atlanta and The Georgian Terrace, I immediately missed her beauty, spirit, and heart and long for the moment when I’ll see her again.
